Balloons, cake and, of course, music - what better way to bring Sound Consultancy’s 5th birthday celebrations to a close?
Earlier this month we held a big birthday showcase event at Eten Cafe in Sheffield for one last birthday hurrah, and what a hurrah it was! With several of our current clients, industry contacts and a mass of new faces, it really was a magical evening filled with music, networking and exciting opportunities.
Joel Toombs, our Artist Development Manager, has been with the company for the last couple of years and has helped numerous artists to take their music to the next level.
“The showcase was a success,” he celebrates. “This was the first time that some of our artists have had chance to meet our whole team and the other artists we work with, so it was great to see them networking with each other as well as promoters and booking agents”.
Five of our wonderful artists gave outstanding performances throughout the night, one of them being the inspirational Jenny Pegg, a songwriter based in Sheffield.
“I thought the event was excellent! The venue was perfect - great atmosphere, room size and acoustics with efficient and friendly bar staff. It was a great opportunity to meet other artists, get to know them a little, ask their advice and hear about their experiences.”
Jenny performed three songs from her debut EP ‘Remain’, which was released in September 2014. “Without the company my music would still be just songs I play in my living room at home. I’ve been thrilled with all the opportunities I’ve already been given in radio and press and am extremely pleased with the branding they’ve provided me with.”
Indie, folk band Speak, Brother ended the night with a bang, performing two brand new songs and one other from their debut EP. It was a truly enchanting set that captivated everyone in the room and made us even more excited for their second EP, which will be released later this year. “There was a great party atmosphere,” say frontman James Herring. “The highlight for me was getting to know the wider team. We'd only met half the team in person before, so it was nice and quite insightful to know what parts everyone has to play. To know we have you guys to fall back to for an opinion or advice and that there is a collective effort to support what we do is a big weight of our minds!”
Showcase events such as this are perfect for making connections, introducing new artists and enjoying great music. “They’re important because we learn from each other and increase our experience in performing,” says Jenny Pegg. “It’s a really good opportunity for contacts to meet several artists at once (and vice versa!) and a relaxed way to build relationships.”
“It’s great to get the bigger picture and see so many other great artists in the same boat as us,” James Herring agrees. “It puts everyone on a level playing field and it's really encouraging!”
Thank you so much to everyone that attended the event and helped to make our 5th birthday celebrations such a success. We’re ecstatic with what Sound Consultancy has achieved so far and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us, so here’s to the years ahead and the many birthdays we are yet to celebrate! Cheers!
