Kill For Eden Gig Review - May the Fourth, Two-Thousand and Seventeen at The 100 Club, London
It’s Star Wars Day and the 100 Club on Oxford Road is heaving with rock-music lovers. Whilst a strong crowd donned their leather jackets to see The Barnstormers serve up face-melting guitar solos and classic rock covers, many were here to see Kill For Eden launching their new album Petty Crimes.
Not even amps cranked up to eleven could compete with the powerhouse vocal performance of leading lady Lyla D’Souza. The Ozzie singer showed off her vocal dexterity and exuberant tambourine shaking from the get go with the the belting opener Burn Out. Inviting the audience to take a step towards the stage she assured everyone that the band wouldn’t bite; unless there was some form of monetary remuneration. Proceeding to invite the listeners to ‘tie her down’ throughout SONG, Lyla commanded the stage in her gothic black-swan attire.
Music highlights included recent single Woke Up Alone and Pay The Piper (which they obviously forgot to do as we only saw drums, bass and guitars on stage) and Wally Miroshnikov’s double-bass-pedal finale on Untouchables where sparks were visibly flying from his DW drum kit. Julian Palmer’s bass skills were are silky as his hair but you can hardly blame him for showing off his luscious locks when saddled alongside bald counterparts on drums and guitar.
For classic rock fans, there’s nothing not to like about Kill For Eden however their appeal is far broader. There’s enough melody to get any listener hooked and a healthy serving of attitude to get the blood pumping round your veins after a long day at work. It’s hardly surprising that their releases have been championed by Radio X and Kerrang Radio.
Kill of Eden will be performing as part of the Galaxies Collide showcase at The Great Escape on Friday 19th May and The Marlborough Pub & Theatre at 13:45. It’s free entry as part of The Alternative Escape. More info here
